A 32-year-old male has been brought into the emergency department by the police. He had been arrested the previous night on a charge o disturbing the peace at a nightclub. Whilst in police custody the patient became irritable, confused and had several generalised seizures.

On examination the patient is not orientated in place and time and is having visual hallucinations. He is febrile but has a tachycardia and tachypnoea. There are no other physical signs.

The most likely cause of his condition is the withdrawal effects of:

a)      Barbiturates

b)      Marijuana

c)      Cocaine

d)      Heroin

e)      Ecstasy
